Dr. Milne has devoted her professional life to working with young people. Her training and professional experience cover the preschool years through young adulthood. She has specific expertise in the treatment of post traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and depression. She also takes special interest in psychoeducational assessment and helping students identify their individual learning style.
In her work with clients, Dr. Milne uses a systemic approach, taking into account a variety of influences in a child's life and helping clients identify sources of support that may exist within the family, school and/or larger community. She also helps clients tap and develop their own natural strengths as a powerful means of demonstrating their true potential and working through areas of distress or conflict in their lives.
Dr. Milne has been a practicing psychologist since 1995 and joined this practice in 2003.
Training: Dr. Milne's training focused on child and adolescent development, family interaction, and the effects of trauma throughout the lifespan. She received broad training in assessment and psychotherapy and worked within a range of settings including college counseling, community mental health and residential treatment for youth. Dr. Milne completed her predoctoral internship at a children's psychiatric hospital and outpatient clinic, where she deepened her expertise in the areas of assessment and psychotherapy with children, families, couples and young adults.
Experience: After completing her Ph.D., Dr. Milne fulfilled her postdoctoral requirements at a large health maintenance organization in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania under the supervision of Dr. Arthur Craft. There she worked with children and adults on a broad range of issues including childhood abuse, depression, marital conflict and the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD.
Dr. Milne went on to practice in an outpatient clinic serving young survivors of sexual abuse and/or related psychological trauma. She provided psychotherapy to children of all ages, young adults and non-offending family members. She also provided trainings and consultation on childhood trauma and sexual abuse for clinic staff and area mental health professionals. In addition, she served as a consultant to a SAMHSA funded initiative to improve services nationally to children who have endured psychological trauma.
